Dungeons without dragons

Way back in the prehistoric times of the Amiga, I always liked the idea of turn-based FPS games like Dungeon Master and Eye Of The Beholder, but could never suffer the hackneyed pseudo-medieval fantasy worlds they invariably took place in. I still can’t – the predominance of godawful sub-Tolkien dwarves-and-orcs settings ruins a huge proportion of videogames to this day.
Which is why I love stuff like this.
Doom 2 RPG – and to an even greater extent, its predecessor Wolfenstein RPG – are the spiritual successors to Dungeon Master and its ilk, but take place in modern/future settings that, while still featuring unearthly monsters, are a lot less embarrassing to be seen playing on the bus. (Their turn-based play, founded in their mobile-phone roots, also means they get neatly round all the control issues that traditional FPS games sometimes encounter on iOS touch screens.)
I mention this now purely because the former title is currently on sale for 59p/99c, at which price it’s an absolute steal. It’s essentially a cross between Doom and Laser Squad, and if that doesn’t make your fun centres tingle you might need medical attention. Or a chainsaw to the midriff.

Have you ever played Federation Quest 1: B.S.S. Jane Seymour? It’s available for Amiga, ST & DOS and I think it would make you very happy indeed.
