Bit.Trip Bargain

Just a quick heads-up that Namco’s excellent but badly-punctuated techno Pong derivative Bit.Trip Beat (previously reviewed here, where it was recipient of the prestigious Podgamer Recommended award) has just become considerably more buyable and even more recommended after a bizarre run of price changes. After launching just a week ago for £1.19 ($1.99), on Thursday it was briefly hiked to £2.99 ($4.99) before being slashed right down to 59p (99c) at some point last night.
The downloadable content is currently also available at 59p for all three add-on tracks, meaning you can get the complete game with all six stages for £1.19, the original price of the base version alone. At that price it’s a must-have, so rush off and have it as fast as you can, because we haven’t got the faintest idea what it’s going to cost tomorrow.
Those in-apps are sets of threes, aren’t they? (I’ve not bought any, but it says you’re getting three tracks when you click on any one, so there’d be 12 in total.)
Anyway, that’s not the point: as if responding to that barney you lot had about locked content t’other day, [Bit Trip] has now been updated to unlock all three basic tracks from the off. Which is nice, as the brain-breaking bouncing green bastards towards the end of the second are a repeated death hole, and I can leave it alone for a bit now to play the third.
*dies within seconds* Ah. But! They’ve also added an Easy mode. Hurrah!
Mm. I was a bit surprised Stu’s wig didn’t fly off regarding the locked content in Bit.Trip. I got pretty narked on the first level until I finished it with a particularly excellent third go. Level two, though? No bloody chance.
Also! iPad owners: this game is much better on an iPad.
The wording in Bit Trip Beat regarding DLC is incredibly confusing, but no – there are three new tracks in total in the DLC, all of which you get in a single purchase.
And see Craig’s point in the Time Geeks review about the difference between locked levels and locked modes. It’s better now that all three levels are unlocked from the off, but previously it still wasn’t a fraction as offensive as what Time Geeks did.
