Unlike Podgamer’s resident poker fiend RevStu, I’m not a card shark, nor even a card goldfish. I am rubbish at poker. Also, I don’t like poker. Strangely, though, when poker is smashed into another game with a hammer, I find it quite compelling, such as with weirdo ten-pin/shuffleboard/poker hybrid 10 Pin Shuffle and freebie Poker Race, which is what this review is about. Mum mum mum maaah.

Objectively, Poker Race is a bit rubbish. The graphics are laughably basic, there’s no sound, and there’s no scoring whatsoever. It is, however, oddly addictive. The basic premise is that you’re involved in a drag race (of cars drawn by a two-year-old), powered by the mighty fuel of good poker hands. You and ‘the computer’ take turns drawing hands from the cards at the foot of the screen; a pair sees your car tootle along for a bit, and a full house sees it zoom mightily along, towards the finish line.
With a bit of extra polish (read: any polish whatsoever), this’d be a Podgamer Recommended for sure, especially with online scores and an online two-player mode. As it is, the game is free (the game is ad-supported—ads are at the foot of the screen, cropped from the screens shown above), tiny (0.7 MB) and fun, so unless gambling of any kind makes your head explode, grab it while you can.
