Dead Rising is the shoddiest item I’ve seen on the iThing that doesn’t include the credit, “Written by Apple.” It’s buggy, it slows down outside, the camera likes to hide what you’re hitting, every door heralds around eight seconds of loading and the save structure hates you so much that I’ll have to explain it in a separate section with pictures. And that’s even before you reach the design, with dozens of novelty weapons and maybe three that are any good, missions that repeat so often that you’re embarrassed and OH FOR GOODNESS’ SAKE J NASH JUST GET ON WITH THE REVIEW AND THE INEVITABLE SURPRISE TWIST DOUBLE-BLUFF REVERSE ENDING (OR IS IT). Lingering freebie: Sir Lovalot

Bit of a surprise this one; I tripped over the Nebulous-y rotating-tower tilt-to-leap lots-of-laughs tricky-jumper last night when the freebie was about to lapse so didn’t mention it, but here it is still wallet-unbothering. The only possible explanation is that authors Hungry Game have swanned off to a temporary funfair forgetting to turn off the lights and freebieness on their way out, so take advantage of their excited hopping from foot to foot and candyfloss fuelled neglect and nab Sir Lovalot before they realise what’s happening midway through hoying an ill-weighted ball at the coconut shy and race pell-mell home in a blazing dodgem leaving fist-waving carnies upended in their wake. UPDATE. They finally made it on Monday December 20th. The game’s now back at 59p/€0,79/99¢.

It’s only been a couple of weeks since I reviewed Elite’s ZX Spectrum emulator for the iPhone, but the company’s been hard at work making changes, including adding new games, revamping the disappointing iPad app, and adding a new freebie version that includes Batty. (Continued...)
