Can there be a more thankless task than getting up at the crack of dawn to scribble addresses on loads of newspapers for delivery to ungrateful sods who moan if their daily collection of bile is a nanosecond late? If your answer is “Why, how about playing Paperboy on your iThing?” that would be pretty harsh—but not by much.
Paperboy is in fact the second version of the game to appear on the App Store, after the first was mysteriously kidnapped by a ninja disguised as Rupert Murdoch, wearing an Atari hat. Glu’s remake is somewhat faithful to the original—which means you’ll get dunked in a swimming pool of nostalgia jam, before realising that one of the ingredients of nostalgia jam is rotten entrails.

Hello, viewers! It’s time to take an exciting time-travel journey!
*SFX: WIBBLY SCREEN THING AND SPOOKY SOUND EFFECTS*
Oh my! It’s 1991. Picture the scene: a C64, an avid gamer, and a copy of Sensitive. A broken joystick, having been smashed on to the desk, due to aforementioned Sensitive—a brilliant but demanding and frustrating puzzler that tasks you with moving a metal doughnut over yellow blocks that vanish when you move off of them. Path-planning deviousness. Awful music. Addiction.
OH NO! We’ve been hit in our flux capacitor by 1.21 gigawatts of power, and we’re being hurled through time, against our will, back to the (“Present” – Legal Ed).

Do you like Whac-a-Mole games? Do you like DINOSAURS ON THE MOON? If your answers to these questions are ‘yes’ and ‘yes’ – or even ‘yes’ and ‘eh?’, come to that - then download Bubble Pets. The game is a gloriously demented tap-based Whac-a-Mole-style reaction game, with amusingly chunky retro styling. And while the collision detection is occasionally a little suspect, that hasn’t stopped me spending a chunk of today prodding my device until GIANT MONKEY WAS DEFEATED.

My feet don't hardly make no sound, walking on the moon (because GIANT DINOSAUR HAS EATEN THEM *SAD FACE*)

I never could get excited by golf. As a kid, the thought of hitting a ball with a stick and then wandering slowly around a rather dull rich-person’s lawn never caught my imagination. Oddly, though, from C64 classic Leaderboard onwards, I’ve always been partial to golf games. I am contradictory—don’t judge me.
There are loads of golf games for iOS devices, but Stick Golf has become my firm favourite; and, oddly enough, it wouldn’t have looked out of place on an 8-bit micro.

Brian was happy with the shot, but then realised he had no idea how to get down to the green.
